Council

SEFTC is a formal partnership of the three regional Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs): Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization, Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization, and Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency. The council is composed of three members, with one representative from each of the MPO partners.

Supporting Committees

The RTTAC is a staff-level working group tasked with addressing many of the technical issues brought before the SEFTC. The following agencies are represented on the RTTAC:

Metropolitan Planning Organizations

  • Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization

  • Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization

  • Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency

State Agencies

  • Florida Department of Transportation, Districts Four and Six

  • Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise

  • Greater Miami Expressway

Regional Planning Councils

  • South Florida Regional Planning Council

  • Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council

Transit Agencies

  • Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works

  • Broward County Transit

  • Palm Tran

  • South Florida Regional Transportation Authority

The RTTAC is supported by three subcommittees:

  • Composed of modeling experts from agencies throughout the region, this staff-level working group focuses on regional travel demand modeling. They use data and mathematical models to predict how people will travel, where they will go, and which routes they will take. This group collectively sets guidelines, policies, and technical applications for travel demand modeling activities in the region. They also manage a data partnership including the three MPOs, two FDOT districts, and Broward County.

  • This subcommittee coordinates efforts to involve the public in current and future regional transportation investment decisions. It also ensures continued use of effective outreach strategies. The subcommittee consists of public information and involvement officers from the Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach MPOs and FDOT Districts Four and Six.

  • This subcommittee coordinates Transportation System Management and Operations (TSM&O)-related projects so they are better integrated within the region's planning process and documents. TSM&O uses proven traffic management strategies and technologies to improve safety and people-moving capacity. Meeting on an as-needed basis, the subcommittee’s members include representatives from the MPOs, transit agencies, county traffic engineering divisions, the City of Boca Raton, FDOT, and Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise.

The Public

A successful plan is one that is supported by the public it serves. Thorough public outreach efforts for the three regional MPOs were coordinated, including a survey on regional travel. This survey made it possible to gather feedback from the region’s many unique local populations to inform this regional plan. Hundreds of people from across the region responded according to the following trends.

Voices from Government, Businesses, and the Public

Achieving a transportation vision everyone can agree on takes careful planning and coordination. SEFTC facilitates this by engaging the public and fostering strong partnerships between its three partner MPOs, supporting agencies, local governments, and communities. One of SEFTC's most important responsibilities is developing and implementing this RTP in coordination with other regional and local plans.
